transferable conversations:
The Passion of the Christ
a cojourner's resource
The Passion of the Christ will provide many opportunities for significant conversations. Our desire is to be prepared. We need to be ready to enter into the spiritual journey of those we bring, discover where they are at and how God has spoken to them, and then help them respond to Jesus.
We anticipate that the movie will draw significant crowds. The audience may be weighted toward the believing end of the spectrum, with only a small number of true skeptics attending. But two larger groups will include:
- Christianized people who are generally positive about Christian things, but who don’t understand the meaning of Christ’s death (the why of the gospel).
- Believers who know why Jesus died, but who aren’t living fully for Christ. The movie may serve as a wake up call as they witness what Jesus did for them.
To make the most of this opportunity, we need to be prepared to engage individuals in these two groups in significant conversation. The following Transferable Conversations can help you do so.
- For those in the audience needing to understand “why Jesus died,” the Transferable Conversation is built around Romans 6:23.
- For the audience needing to consider “how we should live,” the Transferable Conversation is built around Mark 8:34.
To help us research the effectiveness of these conversations, please email a brief account of each conversation and response to
