Leading a movement
road map for january 2006

January 9

  • Surveys, Surveys, and more Surveys.  There is no better time then the first week of classes to find out who is interested in your ministry.  Find the interested students before their schedules fill up.
  • Posters, posters, and more posters.  Let everyone on campus know that you’re there, where you meet and what time you meet.  Use flyers, banners, table tents, human sandwich boards, King Kong costume, business cards, and ???  Be creative.  Advertise every week, don’t give up.  Assign someone as the publicity coordinator. See Weekly Meeting Resources on GodSquad
  • At your first meeting of the semester, make it fun, have a creative ice-breaker, and serve snacks.  Tell everyone why Campus Crusade is on campus and our overall purpose.  Start out in high momentum.  See Defining Our Cause on GodSquad

January 16

  • This week begin your Bible studies on campus.  Be sure the 15-16 weeks of Bible studies you have this semester covers the most important topics that students need to know.  Be careful of tangent studies that do not truly contribute to students growing in their relationship with God.  The studies should also directly and indirectly encourage people spiritually to help reach the campus with the Gospel message.
  • Train everyone in your ministry on how to use the “Big Six”.  Using the “How To Know God Personally” booklet, this is one of the easiest and most effective ways to share your faith.  If you’ve trained others from last semester, consider going over this with new people.  It is fundamental to all we do:
  • Thoroughly follow-up on those who filled out the surveys.  These may be your next generation of leaders and workers on the campus.
  • Consider going to a Summer Opportunities project this summer.  This is truly a life changing event, should you decide to go.

When is the deadline for applying for summer opportunities?

The first deadline is January 24; if you meet that deadline, you will hear a decision regarding your acceptance to project by February 28.

The second deadline is February 24; if you meet that deadline, you will hear a decision about your acceptance by March 28.

If you miss the February 24 deadline, you may still apply. We will continue to accept applications as long as there are available spots on projects.

January 23

  • Continue with the follow-up of surveys from the first week of classes.  Here’s a great follow-up series you can use individually or in groups.
  • Be sure that you’re having quality weekly meetings.  All your hard work will not reach its greatest potential if people do not come back.
  • Encourage everyone to share their faith with those on your campus by hooking up with the Student2Student strategy that Campus Crusade has:
  • If you’re on the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. consider going to the Big Break conference in Panama City, Florida.  Get out the cold and get into the sun.
  • Summer Opportunities deadlines are also fast approaching

January 30

  • Plan for your big evangelistic event for February.  Keep in mind Valentine’s day is this month – there are plenty of creative avenues to present the gospel through various topics. See this past tip for more ideas
  • Do an evaluation of the first month of the semester.  Look at all your weekly activities:  What went well?  Where can you improve?  What needs to be added or deleted?
  • About this time in the semester you should be thinking about who will be in your leadership team for this fall.  Challenge all of your seniors to replace themselves before they graduate or transfer to another school.
  • Keep in mind the deadlines for the Big Break and Summer Opportunities.
