elements
of a weekly meeting
LA Metro Ministry
Below is a list of ideas that you can use in a weekly
meeting on your campus. Not everything would be appropriate
for every campus situation but some of these elements
might work for your meeting. Of course this list is
not exhaustive but it will help get you started.
Elements of a Meeting:
- Prayer
Have people share recent answers to prayer. One
campus has students come to the front and place
a marble in a glass bowl representing their answer
to prayer and then shares it with the group.
- Concert of prayer meeting.
- Prayer walking time during the meeting.
- Have students break up into small groups
and share prayer requests and pray for each other.
- Have a prayer time before the meeting to
pray for your movement and the meeting to follow.
- Pass around a clipboard each meeting to gather
the names and info of new people. Have
someone give them a call that week and add their
name to your campus email list.
- Have a connection time (meet
& greet)
- Ice
breaker question
- Game
- Artistic expression thing – For example,
draw a picture that represents your last week and
share it in small groups.
- Have people pair up during the meeting
to have lunch or coffee sometime during the week.
- Go out to lunch or some other activity
together right after the meeting.
- Worship time
- Word time: Speaker, Bible study
discussion, small groups, speaker facilitated discussion,
group talks.
- Spotlights: a short segment (about
3-6 minutes) highlighting a recent story, aspect
of the ministry, ministry idea, etc.
- Evangelism stories
- Highlighting subcultures on campus as people
to reach out to - video and interview people
from that group. For example athletes, artists,
international students, Hispanics, etc.
- Short training on some ministry aspect. For
example, “how to connect with someone
in class.”
- Announcements / Opportunities
Pass out calendar Pass out phone/email list.
- Seek to make announcements more interesting
- Highlight some announcements by writing them
on the chalkboard or hanging up a poster in
the room.
- Call them, “things you need to know.”
- Testimonies
- Summer projects/Missions trips
- Salvation
- Christmas conference
- What God is teaching me
- Answered prayer
- What God is leading me to do, applications.
- Changed lives
- A story about a recent outreach
- Have a sharing time. For example,
“what has God been teaching you?” “What
have you seen God do this semester?” etc.
- Skits
- Multi-Media
- Video of recent events, etc
- Video of students on campus answering spiritual
questions. Gives vision for doing evangelism.
- Video slideshow
- Share the gospel at the meeting
- Do mini-outreach for the meeting.
For example meet, pray, pair up and go sharing,
come back for sharing/debrief.
