Evangelism - Training, Perspective and Practical Application
Training in Evangelism - The Big Six - CoJourners
This week is a great time to take the new people coming to your meetings through the training called the Big Six. Then begin to apply immediately. But also look at this training in the context of the motivational CoJourners training series. Maybe you can take ten minutes in your weekly meetings for the next four or five weeks to go over this material as a training activity. It’s a great perspective.
Perspective on Evangelism
In Neil Cole’s book, “Organic Church”, he makes this statement:
“The only difference between a day-old believer and one who has walked with God for decades is maturity…When we allow, or even demand, that new converts wait and receive instruction and training before they can become workers, we are effectively granting them permission to be passive, inactive, selfish, and stagnant…We need to repent of underestimating what God can do through a new believer.” (2005. pgs. 150, 154)
Top Ten List
Cole makes a powerful point. Let’s help to train even our new people in how to share their faith and then let’s send them out to reach others on your campus. You don’t need to train them for a year, you can do it now. Here’s a great suggestion: Have everyone who goes through the “Big Six” training make a top-ten list of their friends to pray for and then share the gospel. This will help everyone step out in faith and be intentional. God can do some big things. Want to see your ministry continue to grow? Throw out the gospel net and share the good news with as many as you can on your campus. Don’t forget to bring everyone with you, even the new people. Go for it!
